The Great Lice Clean Up

The Great Clean Up!

We are only concerned with live adult bugs for the house cleanup. Normally after someone uses The Nit Nanny Lice Solution Treatment they should not have any live bugs, the house cleaning needs to be done 1 time only. While doing a cleanup is an important step, treating the head is most important.

Your house is not the source of a re-infestation. However, you must take care of the checklist below so that the treatment you just did can be most successful. Here it goes…

Laundry

The following items go in the dryer for 30 minutes on high heat *you only have to do this list initially

  • Special stuffed animals, blankets, or lovies that can go in the dryer (do first so it is available as soon as possible)
  • Bed linens, comforters, blankets, towels
  • Any clothes in the laundry and on the floor
  • Coats, hats, hoody sweatshirts, sweaters(anything that has been worn in the last 3 days)
  • Dress up clothes

Things to Vacuum

  • Cloth sofas and chairs
  • Cloth car seats
  • Any large pillows that can’t go in the dryer (Pillows that are in TV areas or husband pillows on beds that were recently used)
  • Carpets where kids lay on around the TV, bedroom, and playroom
  • Carpets that clothes may be laying on

Only clean areas that have had direct head contact

  • *Anything that cannot withstand the hot dryer cycle or be vacuumed needs to be put out of the way for 2-3 days
  • *An adult louse cannot survive very long off of a human host
  • *It is known that a louse cannot survive very long without a human host. Lice have legs with claws on the ends of them so they can cling to fabric but cannot get around well on leather, plastic, wood or other flat surfaces.

FYI- Special house cleaning products and laundry additives are completely unnecessary! Using the heat of the dryer or vacuuming items that have had head traffic is all you need to do. Services that sell cleaning products for head lice are taking advantage of their customers

Helmets & Hats

Any bicycle helmets or batting helmets that have been used within 2-3 days prior to treatment need to be treated. Just put the helmet(s) in the freezer. Baseball hats or winter hats can go in the dryer for 30 minutes on high heat. If the hat or helmet has not been used then they are fine

Brushes & hair accessories

You will need to clean the brushes on the day of the first treatment. Our recommendations for cleaning brushes are to boil water in a stockpot, take it off the heat and let the brushes and combs soak until the water cools off. The water needs to be 130°
